Basketball Game Preview: Southwest Onslow Stallions vs. James Kenan Tigers

The Southwest Onslow Stallions will face off against the James Kenan Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Southwest Onslow knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully James Kenan likes a good challenge.

Last Thursday, Southwest Onslow got the win against South Lenoir by a conclusive 60-40. The Stallions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southwest Onslow to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malekhi Hutchinson, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 19 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Pittman, who posted 16 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, James Kenan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 73-68 to North Lenoir. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Hawks 18-11 in the first quarter.

Southwest Onslow's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. As for James Kenan, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Southwest Onslow beat James Kenan 64-56 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Southwest Onslow repeat their success, or does James Kenan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
