Chloe Vaughan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kaeleigh Maner was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaysen Kesler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Appomattox County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in seven consecutive contests.
Appomattox County's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Rustburg, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rustburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Appomattox County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts.
