Softball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

If Gilbert was feeling good fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Mountain Pointe last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell just short of the Higley Knights by a score of 7-6 on Monday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Tyler Gordanier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Arianna Leon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Kaiya Imel also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Gilbert has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Higley, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-18-1.

Looking ahead, Gilbert will square off against Chandler at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.32 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Higley will be paying especially close attention to Gilbert's game: after Gilbert faces off against Chandler, they'll take on Higley again at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
