Basketball Recap: Parkland's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Parkland's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They managed a 48-44 victory over the Bel Air Highlanders. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Matadors as it put an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Parkland had a senior duo take command as Diego Castillo dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards and Tyresse Wallace posted 12 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Castillo a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Justin Mcmorris, who earned six points.

Parkland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Bel Air lost, don't look at Matt Hernandez. Despite the final result, he put up 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Garcia, who had six points and three steals.

Parkland's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-18. As for Bel Air, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-11.

Parkland will welcome Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkland is facing Horizon at the right time seeing as Horizon is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Bel Air, they will head out on the road to take on Hanks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bel Air will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: Hanks will have lost eight straight heading into Tuesday's game.
