Softball Recap: Currituck County Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

Currituck County won the last time they faced Pasquotank County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Knights came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-4.

Kaydence Hassell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits.

On the hitting side, Currituck County let Kori Belangia and Julia Twine run wild. Belangia went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Twine went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Belangia has posted since back in April of 2024. Amelia Cervantes was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Currituck County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pasquotank County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Currituck County will take on Grassfield in a tournament on Saturday. As for Pasquotank County, they will head out to face off against First Flight at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Nighthawks have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
