Top 25 high school football rankings

Centennial (Corona, Calif.) was the most impressive team this weekend in the Xcellent 25 Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

The Huskies jumped from No. 17 to No. 8 after overwhelming Norco 45-0.

Centennial is known for its potent offense, but this year's version of the Huskies has featured a dominant defense which has not allowed more than two touchdowns in any game.

The team's signature win was a 44-13 thrashing of Mater Dei, which nearly knocked off Servite on Friday.



Centennial's rise means that three teams from Southern California now reside in the Top 10, with Westlake at No. 9 and Mission Viejo at No. 10. That trio, along with No. 19 Servite and Serra, which is just outside the Xcellent 25, will compete for the CIF Open Division Bowl Game bid.

Grant, Northern California's top team, checks in at No. 12.

Another team making a jump this week is St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio). The Eagles polished off an undefeated regular season by beating rival St. Ignatius 33-10. They check in this week at No. 18.

St. Edward has successfully navigated one of the nation's most difficult schedules. However, Glenville looms in the Region I playoff bracket in what will be an extremely challenging road to a state title.

Xcellent 25 Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (1) Trinity (Euless, Texas), 9-0
The Trojans rested up on their bye week and will take on MacArthur (Irving) on Thursday night.



2. (2) South Panola (Batesville, Miss.), 10-0
Qyendairs Griffin busted loose for 294 yards and three touchdowns and Kendrick Market threw for two scores out of the wildcat formation as South Panola downed Starkville 47-13.

3. (3) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 8-0
It was another dominating performance for Aquinas, which blasted Deerfield Beach 56-6. Quarterback Jacob Rudock, who has been consistent all season long, once again threw for three touchdowns for the Raiders.

4. (4) Hoover (Ala.), 10-0
Hoover survived a barnburner against Bob Jones (Madison), winning 20-13. The Bucs trailed 13-6 in the fourth quarter, but the team's biggest weapons, Jaylon Denson and Justin McArthur, each found the end zone to help Hoover survive.

5. (5) Armwood (Seffner, Fla.), 8-0
Josh Grady threw four touchdown passes and the Hawks' defense was dominant as Armwood pounded Gaither (Tampa) 49-7.

6. (6) West Monroe (La.), 9-0
Paul Turner, Tyler Cain and Bubba Reeves all eclipsed the 100-yard mark rushing in West Monroe's 59-14 win over Natchitotches Central.

7. (7) Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), 7-0
Junior receiver Leonte Carroo exploded for four touchdowns and 212 total yards as Don Bosco Prep pounded Paramus Catholic 49-0.

8. (17) Centennial (Corona, Calif.), 8-0
Centennial throttled Norco, which entered the game with only one loss, by the score of 45-0. Barrington Collins ran for five touchdowns.

9. (8) Westlake (Westlake Village, Calif.), 8-0
Westlake's potent offense erupted for 42 first-half points en route to a 49-13 victory over Agoura. Quarterback Nick Isham scored three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground, and Tavior Mowry found the end zone twice to power Westlake.



10. (9) Mission Viejo (Calif.), 8-0
The Diablos came alive in the second half, rallying to beat San Clemente 38-24. Running back Dallas Kessman finished with 234 yards and three scores and star Tre Madden, returning from injury, played well on both sides of the ball.

11. (10) Phoebus (Hampton, Va.), 9-0
Tyree Lee was extremely efficient, rushing 11 times for 316 yards and a trio of touchdowns as Phoebus beat up on Denbigh 56-6.

12. (11) Grant (Sacramento, Calif.), 9-0
Laguna Creek (Elk Grove) star running back Don Jackson was held out of the end zone by Grant's impressive defense, as the Pacers won convincingly, 56-0.

13. (12) Colerain (Cincinnati, Ohio), 10-0
Five different players scored for Colerain, which dismantled Oak Hills (Cincinnati) 48-6.

14. (13) Katy (Texas), 9-0
Katy once again posted massive numbers on the ground in its 56-14 victory over Katy Taylor. Donovonn Young gained 260 yards and four touchdowns while Adam Taylor added 135 yards and two scores for the Tigers.

15. (14) Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio), 10-0
John Marshall (Cleveland) pushed Glenville like no Ohio team has this season, but in the end, the Tarblooders prevailed 38-20. Senior quarterback Cardale Jones tossed a pair of scores for Glenville.

16. (15) Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.), 7-1
Four total touchdowns from dual-threat signal caller Jacoby Brissett was more than enough for Dwyer, which pummeled Royal Palm Beach 45-0.

17. (16) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), 8-0
Back-up quarterback Michael Parros rushed for two touchdowns and second-string running back Joe Te'o caught a 46-yard touchdown pass to lead De La Salle over Granada 52-7.



18. (25) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 10-0
St. Edward won its annual battle with rival St. Ignatius (Cleveland), dubbed the Holy War, 33-10. Terrell Bates sparked the offense with 137 yards and two scores.

19. (18) Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.), 10-0
Matthew Rogers' three scores helped Wheaton-Warrenville South advance easily in the first round by the 7A state playoffs by downing Benet Academy (Lisle) 49-7.

20. (19) Servite (Anaheim, Calif.), 8-0
Servite's defense got the job done against Mater Dei's talented offense as the Friars won 21-14. Running back Malik Felton, filling in for an injured Sean Derosa, rushed 23 times for 188 yards and two scores to spark the offense.

21. (20) Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), 10-0
Filling in for suspended running back Harvey Langi, senior Inoke Taufaiele rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns as Bingham shut out Hunter 34-0.

22. (21) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 10-0
Northwestern overcame a big hurdle by downing a tough Gaffney squad 42-28. Quarterback Justin Worley continues to rewrite South Carolina record books as he threw five more touchdown passes for the Trojans.

23. (22) Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.), 8-1
Camden County continues to rebound following its only loss, at the hands of No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas, as the Wildcats pounded Johnson (Augusta) 55-0.

24. (23) Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 8-0
With Mike Blakely slowed by two bad ankles, quarterback Cord Sandberg took control of the Manatee offense. He tallied three touchdown passes, including one to Quenton Bundrage right before halftime, as Manatee notched a big 24-7 victory over Venice.



25. (24) Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.), 10-0
Marquise Williams was brilliant yet again, throwing six touchdown passes and scrambling for one more as Mallard Creek overpowered West Charlotte 76-30.
