Meanwhile, it was all tied up at the half for Greene County Tech and Brookland, but Greene County Tech stepped up in the second half. Greene County Tech snuck past Brookland with a 47-43 victory.
Greene County Tech's victory lifted them to 2-0 while Newport's defeat dropped them down to 0-1. In their win, Greene County Tech relied heavily on senior Devin Smith, who rushed for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns; a key strategy for Newport will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
