Softball Game Preview: Franklin County Flyers vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs

The Franklin County Flyers will head out on the road to square off against the Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.

Franklin County will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Saturday, then bounced right back against Frankfort on Tuesday. The Flyers were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over the Panthers. The Flyers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

R Landers made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Landers was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Avery Lofton and Carlie Olds did most of the damage at the plate: Lofton went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Olds went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Olds a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillie Pollard, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Franklin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frankfort only posted an OBP of .320.

Meanwhile, Paul Laurence Dunbar came up short against Garrard County on Tuesday, falling 16-6.

Franklin County's record is now 8-5. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Franklin County took their win against Paul Laurence Dunbar in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 27-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flyers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
