Basketball Recap: American Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

American won the last time they faced Miami Springs and things went their way on Tuesday too. The American Patriots took down the Miami Springs Golden Hawks 58-43. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 675th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

American had a senior duo take command as Derrius Black went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and Angel Torres posted nine points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Torres. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Errar, who had five points.

American's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Miami Springs, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

American will welcome Keys Gate at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Miami Springs, they will head out to challenge Hialeah-Miami Lakes at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
