Recap: Walsenburg Panthers vs. Fowler Grizzlies
It was a good run, but The Walsenburg Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fowler. Walsenburg lost against Fowler in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 56-6 score last time.
Nino Cisneros and Elton Chavez, Walsenburg certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Cisneros picked up 154 receiving yards, while Chavez only threw for 207 passing yards and failed to score a touchdown in addition to 87 yards on the ground. Cisneros' longest reception was for an incredible 87 yards.
Walsenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Fowler, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walsenburg will square off against Crowley County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Crowley County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 172 points over their last three games. As for Fowler, they will head out on the road to face off against Dolores Huerta Prep at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Dolores Huerta Prep is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
