Softball Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets

The Elgin Comets will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets at 5:00 p.m. Elgin has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Elgin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kenton on Saturday.

Cobra Jackson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Arlington 13-11. The win continues a trend for the Fighting Hornets in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Addison Inbody was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.7 RBI per game. Addyson Duffman was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Elgin's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Cory-Rawson, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Elgin got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Cory-Rawson by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
