The Salem Wildcats will face off against the Lawrence County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lawrence County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Salem, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, Salem earned a 2-0 victory over Mississippi School for the Deaf. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Salem easily took the second set, but they let things get interesting in the other. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-8.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence County challenged Columbia on Tuesday. The Cougars fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 3-2.
While Lawrence County ultimately came up short, they really made Columbia work, particularly in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 29-27, 15-11.
Despite the defeat, Lawrence County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kylee McLeod had 17 digs and two aces. Another player making a difference was Adaya Ball, who had four digs and three aces.
Lawrence County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season. As for Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6.
Salem was able to grind out a solid win over Lawrence County in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 3-1. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
