Basketball Recap: Barnwell Warhorses vs. Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks
After losing to the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks the last time they met, the Barnwell Warhorses decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Barnwell walked away with a 56-47 victory over the Fighting Hawks on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Barnwell.
Barnwell found their leader in underclassman Vashahd Scofield, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scofield has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Pickney, who scored nine points.
Blackville-Hilda lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaquel Holman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Messiah Mcfadden, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Barnwell's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. As for Blackville-Hilda, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barnwell and the Jaguars will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Blackville-Hilda, they will head out on the road to challenge the Blue Devils at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Williston-Elko is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
