Baseball Recap: Middletown Drops Season-High Score on Colerain

Middletown extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Colerain Cardinals. On the bright side, the five- run performance marked the Middies' highest-scoring match to date.

As for Colerain, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Colerain's part, Caleb Hesse spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Colerain's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Vinny Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Nathan Johnson was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Middletown will face off against Milford at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Colerain, they will square off against Reading at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
