The Crockett Cougars will head out to face off against the Bastrop Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Crockett's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Richards School for Young Women Leaders 18-0. The contest marked the Cougars' most dominant win of the season so far.
Emily Castillo made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent over her last 11 games. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Adola Moore was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles. Isabel Morales also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Crockett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, Bastrop came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Raptors with a sharp 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Bastrop got a massive performance out of Laicey Sullivent, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lanie Coy, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Crockett pushed their record up to 4-6-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bastrop, their record is now 8-6-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Crockett hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Bastrop struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Crockett was able to grind out a solid victory over Bastrop in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 14-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crockett since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
