Basketball Recap: Spurger Comes Up Short

Spurger played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Leggett Pirates, falling 53-27. Spurger was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Leggett apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Leggett's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tamera Henderson led the charge by putting up 18 points along with five steals and four blocks. Henderson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bianca Perkins, who posted 20 points in addition to eight assists and five boards.

Spurger dropped their record down to 3-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Leggett, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-13.

Spurger will be playing in front of their home fans against Brookeland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Brookeland knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Spurger likes a good challenge. As for Leggett, they will venture away from home to take on Goodrich at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
