The St. Mary's Ryken Knights will face off against the Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. St. Mary's Ryken is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
St. Mary's Ryken is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of DeMatha. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly two runs.
St. Mary's Ryken saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Michael, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Our Lady of Good Counsel and Bishop Ireton, and Our Lady of Good Counsel kept the tradition alive. The Falcons blew past the Cardinals 11-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ryan Martin looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Jack Morin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Rodriguez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Our Lady of Good Counsel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Ireton only posted a batting average of .118.
St. Mary's Ryken's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Mary's Ryken has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Our Lady of Good Counsel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went St. Mary's Ryken's way against Our Lady of Good Counsel in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as St. Mary's Ryken made off with an 11-4 win. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
