Softball Game Preview: Millington Cardinals vs. Lakeville Falcons

The Millington Cardinals will take on the Lakeville Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Millington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Millington had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Cass City put an end to it on Thursday. The Cardinals fell 4-0 to the Red Hawks. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Morgan Matusik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Millington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Damm, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.

Meanwhile, Lakeville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won six matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Lakeville's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Millington, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Millington might still be hurting after the 16-9 loss they got from Lakeville in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
