Baseball Game Preview: Newtown Nighthawks vs. Berlin Redcoats

The Newtown Nighthawks will take on the Berlin Redcoats at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newtown took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Bunnell as they made off with a 15-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Nighthawks in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Berlin is still undefeated this season after their game against Maloney on Wednesday, but Maloney came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Redcoats came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Spartans. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redcoats have posted against the Spartans since May 22, 2021.

Berlin's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Newtown, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Newtown beat Berlin 7-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2015. Do the Nighthawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redcoats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
