Basketball Recap: Pembroke Pines Charter Takes Down Belen Jesuit in a Playoff Battle

Pembroke Pines Charter had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They managed a 50-46 win over the Belen Jesuit Wolverines on Monday. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Wolverines are ranked 83rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pembroke Pines Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Robert Guishard out in front who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Guishard is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Trenchfield, who posted 13 points.

Belen Jesuit's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Orlando Roche, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points. Lucas Diaz was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Pembroke Pines Charter is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points over those games. Belen Jesuit's loss dropped their record down to 20-9.
