Hillsboro is 0-4 against Ferris since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Hillsboro Eagles will square off against the Ferris Yellowjackets at 2:00 p.m. Hillsboro has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Ferris will be up against a hot Hillsboro team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Hillsboro came out on top against Kennedale by a score of 21-17 on Friday.
Cloe Creech was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laci Forns, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Hillsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .673. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ferris). Everything went their way against Kennedale on Tuesday as Ferris made off with a 22-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Landri Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrie Henson, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Cook, who went 1-for-5 with five RBI and three runs.
Ferris is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Hillsboro's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6.
Hillsboro might still be hurting after the 19-3 defeat they got from Ferris when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Can Hillsboro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
