Baseball Game Preview: Hackettstown Tigers vs. Wallkill Valley Rangers

The Hackettstown Tigers will square off against the Wallkill Valley Rangers at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hackettstown 3.1, Wallkill Valley 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Hackettstown barely beat Morris County Tech the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Devils a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Hackettstown let Trey Schneider and Kyle Edwards run wild. Schneider went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run, while Edwards got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Schneider a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Wallkill Valley suffered their biggest loss since April 24, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Vernon, falling 8-2. The Rangers have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Wallkill Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Hackettstown, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything went Hackettstown's way against Wallkill Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Hackettstown made off with a 9-3 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
