Basketball Preview: Pueblo Central Wildcats vs. Pueblo County Hornets
After three games on the road, Pueblo Central is heading back home. They will take on the Pueblo County Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 233 points over their last four contests.
Pueblo Central pushed their score all the way to 60 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Pueblo West by a score of 62-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (58), Pueblo Central still had to take the loss.
Pueblo Central's loss came about despite a quality game from Xavier Davis, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Darrin Hemphill, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Pueblo County lost to the Grizzlies on the road by a decisive 65-49 margin on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Pueblo County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Grizzlies are ranked 26th).
Pueblo Central's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Pueblo County, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.
Pueblo Central beat the Hornets 55-45 when the teams last played back in January. Does Pueblo Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
