Softball Recap: Lapwai Wildcats vs. Potlatch Loggers

Lapwai extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They lost 23-1 to the Potlatch Loggers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Loggers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Wednesday.

As for Potlatch, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Potlatch's part, Brieanna Winther and Maddie Smith dominated on the mound. Winther tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Smith pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Smith was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Kylie Heitstuman was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.

Lapwai does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Potlatch, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 31-6 win against Prairie on the 26th.
