Softball Recap: Miami Country Day Takes Down Marathon in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Miami Country Day walked away with it. They blew past the Marathon Dolphins 15-5 on Monday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Collins Ames was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Sharleah Lapaix was a standout: she scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Frankie Kleinberger was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Miami Country Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Miami Country Day's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5. As for Marathon, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Miami Country Day will be playing at home against Miami Springs at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Marathon, they will venture away from home to challenge Somerset Academy South Homestead at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
