Baseball Game Preview: Highland Huskies vs. Pekin Panthers

The Highland Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the Pekin Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Highland is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

While Highland didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Louisa-Muscatine 3-2.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Pekin was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Highland pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Pekin, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-4.

Highland came out on top in a nail-biter against Pekin in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
