Baseball Recap: Belmont Takes a Loss

Belmont fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Falkner on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 10-9. The Cardinals' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Brayden Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Belmont's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-15 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Canyon Wright, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

Belmont's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Falkner, they moved to 16-9 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Looking ahead, Belmont will face off against Baldwyn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Falkner, they will square off against Potts Camp at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
