Mattoon is a perfect 6-0 against Rantoul since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Greenwave will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mattoon came out on top against Taylorville on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Greenwave were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Tornadoes. That's two games straight that the Greenwave have won by exactly seven runs.
Jackson Horst tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Dallas Morton was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Zander Piper was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Rantoul sidestepped Paxton-Buckley-Loda for a 2-1 win.
Holden Cargo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rantoul is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Rantoul secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Yovanny Solorzano, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Rantoul is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Mattoon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.
Mattoon was able to grind out a solid win over Rantoul in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-0. Will the Greenwave repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
