Basketball Recap: Douglas County West Beats Conestoga for Their Third Straight Victory

Douglas County West had won two straight games and Maddison Zach did her part to make it three on Saturday. The Douglas County West Falcon took their match with ease, bagging a 65-23 win over the Conestoga Cougars thanks in part to Zach, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in boards.

The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Strong, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 16 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points.

Despite the loss, Conestoga saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Grace Rodis posted 13 points and four steals. Rodis has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played.

Douglas County West pushed their record up to 7-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Conestoga, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Douglas County West and Conestoga could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Douglas County West will square off against Arlington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 108 places (136 vs. 28). Similarly, Conestoga (ranked 234th) will meet Raymond Central (ranked 27th) at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
