Basketball Recap: Orange Panthers vs. Swansboro Pirates

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Orange had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-33 victory over the Swansboro Pirates.

Orange was led to victory by Evelyn George and Maura Mcmurtry. George went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Mcmurtry shot 71% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals. That's the most points Mcmurtry has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marshea Byrd, who scored seven points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Orange was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 16-2 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the loss, Swansboro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addison King earned 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. King is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last eight games she's played. Orange pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Swansboro, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 14-7 record.

Orange wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-27 loss against Terry Sanford on the 28th. Swansboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
