Basketball Recap: Maura Mcmurtry and Evelyn George Secure Win for Orange

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Orange had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-33 victory over the Swansboro Pirates.

Orange was led to victory by Evelyn George and Maura Mcmurtry. George went 5-for-11 en route to 13 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Mcmurtry shot 71% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals. That's the most points Mcmurtry has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Marshea Byrd, who scored seven points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Orange was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 16-2 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the loss, Swansboro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addison King earned 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. King is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Hackworth, who put up six points.

Orange pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Swansboro, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 14-7 record.

Orange wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-27 loss against Terry Sanford on the 28th. Swansboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
