Softball Recap: Lakeland Comes Up Short

Lakeland had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it four. They lost 12-3 to the Westview Warriors. The Lakers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Lakeland saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cheyenne Short, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was Short's first of the season. Another was Kylee Waldron, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Westview, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games.

On Westview's side, Janissa Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Kyiah Michels was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Ella Williams was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Lakeland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-1 loss against Garrett on the 1st. As for Westview, they have also already played their next contest, a 10-8 defeat against Fairfield on the 30th.
