Basketball Recap: Paw Paw Comes Up Short

Paw Paw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 84-72 to the Blacklick Valley Vikings. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pirates came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 79th in West Virginia, while the Vikings are ranked 556th in Pennsylvania).

Blacklick Valley was led to victory by Greg Schilling and Drew McEvoy. Schilling went 10 for 15 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points, while McEvoy almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards. Those 32 points gave Schilling a new career-high. Drew Gdula was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Paw Paw's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Blacklick Valley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.

Paw Paw wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 97-64 defeat against Turkeyfoot Valley Area on the 28th. As for Blacklick Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-53 win against Hancock on the 28th.
