The Dr. Phillips Panthers will face off against the Horizon Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Horizon took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Dr. Phillips, who comes in off a win.
Dr. Phillips is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Evans with a sharp 27-12 win on Friday. Considering the Panthers have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dr. Phillips got a massive performance out of Briana Lohr, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave Lohr a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Rome, who scored four runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-4.
Lohr wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Dr. Phillips lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Horizon's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 12-8 to East Ridge. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Hawks, who until this game were averaging 1.68 runs allowed.
Mackenzie Duncan and Addison Lamb were huge no matter where they played even without the win. On the mound, Duncan struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Lamb pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Duncan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Lamb went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Lamb's first of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paisley Hernandez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Lila Hernandez was another, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Horizon's defeat dropped their record down to 16-3. As for Dr. Phillips, their record is now 9-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dr. Phillips has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Horizon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dr. Phillips might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Horizon in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
