Football Game Preview: Friendswood Mustangs vs. Fort Bend Kempner Cougars

Friendswood is a perfect 3-0 against Fort Bend Kempner since September of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fort Bend Kempner will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Friendswood extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 34-20 victory over Kingwood Park.

Friendswood can attribute much of their success to Gianni Gerami, who picked up 61 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Gerami a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fort Bend Kempner, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 31-10 margin over Pasadena on Saturday. Considering the Cougars have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Friendswood better keep an eye on Makai Jenkins. He was instrumental in Fort Bend Kempner's win, rushing for 535 yards and one TD while picking up 26.8 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Jenkins is now averaging an impressive 164 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy 'Deuce' DeGar II, who threw for 531 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes.

Fort Bend Kempner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 651 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Fort Bend Kempner's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-5. As for Friendswood, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Everything came up roses for Friendswood against Fort Bend Kempner when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 55-27 victory. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
