Recap: Columbus Blue Devils vs. Monroe Golden Tornadoes
The Columbus Blue Devils suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Monroe on the road and fell 83-28. Columbus was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-12.
Despite the loss, Columbus still got an impressive performance from Alyna Gilbert, who scored eight points along with two steals. Gilbert hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Sanaa Hicks, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kie'Aundria Acree, who scored 37 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Acree has scored all season. Ciarra Lunsford was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Columbus has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Monroe, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Columbus will head out on the road to face off against Carver at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Carver has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 741 points over their last ten contests. As for Monroe, they will be playing at home against Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Thomasville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Wednesday.
