Softball Recap: Henley Comes Up Short

Henley extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the University Prep Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hornets have suffered since March 24th.

As for University Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

For University Prep's part, Rylynn Davis tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Abigail Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Caudell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Henley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-2 defeat against Foothill on the 25th. As for University Prep, they will face off against Central Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
