Basketball Recap: Jena Smith and Tayla Baker Secure Win for Minto

Minto proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 23) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 victory over the Walter Northway Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Lakers: when they faced off against the Warriors back in February, they had to take a 62-44 loss.

Minto was led to victory by Tayla Baker and Jena Smith. Baker posted 21 points, while Smith scored 18 points. Baker's big performance that afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Naomi Fox was another key player, putting up nine points.

Minto has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points over those games. With the defeat, Walter Northway broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-7.

Looking ahead, Minto and Tri-Valley will face off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Walter Northway does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
