Preview: St. Michael the Archangel Warriors vs. Christchurch School Seahorses
St. Michael the Archangel is 0-7 against Christchurch School since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The St. Michael the Archangel Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Christchurch School Seahorses at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with St. Michael the Archangel sitting on four straight wins and Christchurch School on three.
Last Tuesday, St. Michael the Archangel slipped by Trinity Christian 33-32. The win was all the more spectacular given St. Michael the Archangel's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Trinity Christian is ranked 93rd).
St. Michael the Archangel got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Anjalia Bryant out in front who scored ten points along with five steals. Bryant has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janaye Martinez, who scored five points along with 21 rebounds and six blocks.
In what's become a running theme this season, Christchurch School gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Norfolk Academy as Christchurch School made off with a 63-41 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Christchurch School has posted since December 18, 2023.
Christchurch School's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Carmen Navarrete, who scored 22 points along with five steals, and Khoudia Diagne, who scored 30 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Diagne has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alexis Foster, who scored three points along with ten assists and five rebounds.
St. Michael the Archangel has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Christchurch School, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: St. Michael the Archangel have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 47.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Christchurch School, though, as they've only made 28.4% of their threes per game this season. Given St. Michael the Archangel's sizeable advantage in that area, Christchurch School will need to find a way to close that gap.
St. Michael the Archangel was taken down by Christchurch School 61-19 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can St. Michael the Archangel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
