Durant is a perfect 3-0 against Jefferson since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Dragons at 7:00 p.m. The last three games Durant has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Durant had just enough and edged out Alonso 5-4.
Leanne Allen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Allen was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Allen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Helfrich, who went 2-for-4 with one run. That's the most hits Helfrich has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jefferson). They blew past King 18-3 on Monday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
Like Durant, Jefferson also got a great game from a two-way player: Madisen Fleming. She struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Fleming has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Amaya Argilagos was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Isabella Fernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double.
Jefferson hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Jefferson's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Durant, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Everything went Durant's way against Jefferson when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Durant made off with a 12-1 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
