Softball Recap: Pomona Red Devils vs. Workman Lobos

Pomona had lost six straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it seven. They came up short against the Workman Lobos, falling 19-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lobos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-1 back in February.

Mayrin Hernandez-Linares led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Hernandez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

As for Workman, they now have a winning record of 7-6. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Workman's side, McKenna Weller made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Weller has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Workman got a massive performance out of Leana Sanchez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Sanchez has posted since back in February. Gracie Serrano was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Pomona will take on Ganesha at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils will need to watch out since the Giants have now posted at least ten runs in their last 11 matchups. As for Workman, they will challenge Hoover at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
