Preview: Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs vs. Quincy Blue Devils

The Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Quincy Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mahomet-Seymour comes in on seven and Quincy on ten.

Last Friday, Mahomet-Seymour blew past Mattoon, posting a 49-6 victory on the road. With Mahomet-Seymour ahead 49-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Mahomet-Seymour's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lucas Dyer, who threw for 175 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and Luke Johnson, who gained 157 total yards and three touchdowns. Trey Peters was in the mix too, providing Mahomet-Seymour with two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Mattoon to a paltry 129 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mahomet-Seymour's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jayvon Irwin and his two sacks.

Meanwhile, Quincy was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Geneseo 35-7 at home. Given Quincy's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Geneseo is ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jeraius Rice JR continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 205 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also catching a touchdown. Rice JR is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bradyn Little, who threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes.

Their wins bumped Mahomet-Seymour to 7-1 and Quincy to 8-0.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday' game: Mahomet-Seymour commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.1 touchdowns per game. It's a different story for Quincy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.5 per game. Will Mahomet-Seymour continue their march to the end zone, or will Quincy flip the ?
