Baseball Game Preview: Bellport Clippers vs. West Babylon Eagles

For the second straight game, Bellport will face off against West Babylon. The Clippers will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bellport has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with seven straight losses, while West Babylon will come in with three straight wins.

Monday just wasn't the day for Bellport's offense. They came up short against West Babylon on Monday, falling 6-0.

For West Babylon's part, not much got past Matt Critchly, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Bellport off the board. Critchly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Steve Gervasi, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of West Babylon's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Justin Benevento also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Babylon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.

Bellport's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for West Babylon, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
