Volleyball Recap: Rome Free Academy Comes Up Short

Rome Free Academy was the 3-1 winner over Canastota when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rome Free Academy Black Knights fell 3-1 to the Canastota Red Raiders on Wednesday.

While Rome Free Academy had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 25-21.

When it comes to explaining why Rome Free Academy lost, don't look at Elijah Pomales. Despite the final result, he had 39 assists and 13 digs. Pomales is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 13 or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ilija Wenz, who had 17 digs, nine kills, and two blocks.

Rome Free Academy dropped their record down to 5-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Canastota, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Rome Free Academy will head out on the road to challenge Sauquoit Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Canastota, they will venture away from home to take on Rome Free Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
