Softball Recap: Hoover Gets the Win

Hoover hadn't beaten Fresno on the road since April 2, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Patriots came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 7-2. This was payback for the Patriots, who suffered an 8-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Hazel Martinez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Bellatriz Braun was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Keilana Duron was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Hoover and bumps their season record up to 6-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Fresno, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hoover is set to challenge their familiar foe Roosevelt at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Fresno will face off against rival Torres at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
