 Salem proved they can win big  last Tuesday (they won by six) but  on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past the Minerva Lions  4-2. This was payback for Salem, who suffered  a  3-2  defeat the last time these two teams met.
  CARSON RHODES made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run and  only two  hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. RHODES has been consistent recently: he hasn't  tossed less than seven  strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. RHODES was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run and  stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
 In other batting news,  GAVIN COLBERT and  CYLE BURT did most of the damage at the plate:  COLBERT  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 2-for-4, while  BURT  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 2-for-3.
 The  victory  got Salem back to even at 3-3. As for Minerva, they  haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
 Salem will have a chance to go back-to-back against Minerva: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled  at 5:00  p.m.  on Thursday.
