Preview: Rio Grande City Rattlers vs. Palmview Lobos
The Rio Grande City Rattlers will head out on the road to face off against the Palmview Lobos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Two Fridays ago, Rio Grande City was beaten by Vela 73-14. Rio Grande City was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-14.
Meanwhile, Palmview's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two Thursdays ago after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 55-0 defeat at the hands of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North. While losing is never fun, Palmview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 970th, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North is ranked 95th).
This is the second loss in a row for Rio Grande City and nudges their season record down to 2-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-1 Vela and 5-1 McAllen (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 83.3% over those games). Palmview has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Rio Grande City couldn't quite finish off Palmview when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 17-14. Can Rio Grande City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
