The Sulligent Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the South Lamar Stallions at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sulligent is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Sulligent managed to slip by Smithville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Blue Devils lost 10-0 to the Seminoles on Monday. Considering the last time the Blue Devils couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.
Sulligent saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Barnett, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Holy Spirit Catholic typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday South Lamar proved too difficult a challenge. They never let the Saints get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Stallions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Thacker Richards made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, South Lamar let Mason Hardin and Jack McNees run wild. Hardin went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while McNees went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. South Lamar is undefeated when Hardin posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Parker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
South Lamar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
South Lamar now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Sulligent, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sulligent has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Lamar struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sulligent might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from South Lamar in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
