Basketball Game Preview: Capitan Tigers vs. Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers

The Capitan Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

On Thursday, Capitan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-41 to Mescalero Apache. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mesilla Valley Christian School's strategy against Cloudcroft on Tuesday. Mesilla Valley Christian School was the clear victors by a 47-22 margin over Cloudcroft. The SonBlazers haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Mesilla Valley Christian School's win came from a few key players Capitan will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Katey Black, who posted 19 points and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Nevaeh Benjamin was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds.

Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Capitan didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mesilla Valley Christian School in their previous matchup two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 37-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Capitan since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
