Baseball Recap: Widefield's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Widefield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mesa Ridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Widefield was the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over Mesa Ridge on Friday. This was payback for the Gladiators, who suffered a 17-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Liam Gordon made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Zane Cleaton was a standout: he scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Widefield's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Braeden Mitton, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Widefield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Widefield's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6. As for Mesa Ridge, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Widefield wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-3 victory against Sand Creek on the 29th. As for Mesa Ridge, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-2 loss against Severance on the 29th.
