Basketball Game Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. Prospect Panthers

Having just played yesterday, the Aptos Mariners will head out on the road to face off against the Prospect Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Aptos will head out to face Prospect after giving up their first home loss of the season on Friday. Aptos took a 39-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Christopher. While losing is never fun, the Mariners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while the Cougars are ranked 182nd).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Eliya Chavez, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Sherwood, who put up six points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Prospect hadn't done well against Milpitas recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Prospect came out on top against Milpitas by a score of 44-35. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Prospect pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.3 points per game. As for Aptos, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.
